The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) has designated November 6–10, 2023, to be National School Psychology Week (NSPW), with the theme “Let’s Grow Together.” Schools around the country will highlight the role of school psychologists and school-based mental health services in promoting student success. School psychologists partner with families, teachers, school administrators, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community. They apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior to help children and youth succeed socially, behaviorally, emotionally, and academically. They are also important members of school safety and crisis teams. As stated by Dr. Andrea Clyne, President of the National Association of School Psychologists, “School psychologists bring a rich and unique set of skills to their school communities. They are champions for children, families, and schools, working hard to apply their knowledge about mental health, learning, equity, and systems to address challenges that thwart progress.” This year’s NSPW theme, “Let’s Grow Together,” is inspired by the importance of both personal and shared strengths in our growth, as individuals and school communities, in every season of life. The theme recognizes four aspects of growth that are fundamental to effective learning environments and to school psychologists’ role in supporting student well-being and learning. First, individuals grow in their way, often in their own time, a process influenced through engagement and interaction with their surroundings. Second, engagement and interaction with others—being part of a vibrant community—supports growth. Third, diversity is a powerful ingredient in our growth. Lastly, every season, including those focused on rest and rejuvenation, contributes to a continuum of growth. Adena Local Schools would like to recognize our School Psychologist, Kaylyn Pryor, and thank her for all she does for our students, families, and staff! We appreciate you!

Adena believes that teachers play a crucial role in fostering innovation in students. That's why we were thrilled to bring the National Museum of Education to Adena's Professional Development Day. We hope that the training received will help our teachers inspire our students to think creatively and develop their innovative ideas. The National Museum of Education is the only organization in the U.S. that preserves and archives Student Inventions in our National Gallery for America's Young Inventors. The organization develops STEM and Arts National Competitions (Pre-K-College) and invention camps, provides educational training ("Inventucation") for students and teachers, and creates curriculum packages. Their goal is to promote Innovation through Education. Thank you, Adena teachers, for attending the event and your dedication to education. We look forward to continuing to work together to promote innovation and education in our community. As a side note, congratulations to Mr. Dan McCullough for winning the teacher Chili Cook-off offered during our lunch break!

Here is a big shoutout to the Adena student body who went to cheer on the Lady Warriors in the Sweet 16! Thanks to a generous donation from a community member, the students received a paid entry ticket and were treated to a tailgate party and a ride on the Spirit Bus. It was amazing to see the community coming together to support the team, and the students showed so much enthusiasm and school spirit. What a journey it has been with the Lady Warriors! Thank you for an unforgettable experience as we made our way to the 2023 OHSAA Girls Volleyball State Championships. Your hard work and dedication have indeed paid off. You have made us proud to be your fans!

Today, 4th Grade celebrated good behavior with a PBIS activity: STEAM with Sally! Students who had positive behavior for the first nine weeks were invited to participate. Sally Bluck with OSU Extension Office visited the students and led them in an activity where the students got to build robotic bees and create ways for the bees to move around the farms and pollinate the crops. A BIG THANK YOU to Sally Bluck for brining such a cool activity to our students and a BIG THANK YOU to Mrs. Jillian Bluck for making arrangements to bring the 4th graders this opportunity! We appreciate it very much!
